Roger B. Fillingim, PhD is a Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean of Planning and institutional Effectiveness at the University of Florida (UF) College of
Dentistry and Director of the UF Pain Research & Intervention Center of
Excellence. He currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the International
Mentoring Association. Dr. Fillingim also directs the University of Florida
Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s (CTSI) Mentor Academy, and he
directs an institutional postdoctoral training grant. Dr. Fillingim serves as a
Facilitator-Scholar for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Scientific
Mentorship Initiative. Dr. Fillingim has successfully mentored numerous
graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-stage faculty members. In
2016, he was recognized for his mentoring contributions when he received the
University of Florida, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Postdoc Mentoring Award.
Yvette Murphy-Erby, PhDis a Professor of Social Work at the University of Arkansas, where she is known for her dedication to mentorship and culturally responsive training. With a career in academia spanning three decades, she has held numerous leadership roles, including Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Murphy-Erby is passionate about fostering inclusive environments that promote cultural awareness and responsiveness among mentors. She is also a member of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Facilitator-Scholars Team that develops and facilitates interactive culturally responsive learning opportunities.
Ashton Murray, PhDis the Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Rockefeller University. In this role, he serves as the strategic leader, subject matter expert, and change agent for diversity initiatives. He partners with the university’s senior leadership and other stakeholders to develop and drive the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. His duties include measuring and monitoring the university’s diversity metrics, developing new programs and trainings, and promoting practices that increase diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the enterprise, among faculty, postdocs, students, staff, and the broader community. By offering DEI training, workshops, and other targeted interventions, his work aims to attract and recruit promising underrepresented talent, embed an appreciation of diversity, equity, and inclusion across structures and policies, and provide the needed cross-cultural communication skills to help the university community flourish. Dr. Murray has a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies, focusing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership, from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Master of Divinity from Wake Forest University, focusing on ethics and morality.
