Find a Job

See the steps you need to take in order to successfully secure a student job.

Handshake

First and foremost, you will want to create an account on the university’s job listing website named Handshake. This site is similar to what you’ll see on LinkedIn; the only difference is that this site is exclusive to the university’s part- and full-time positions. You can access Handshake through your UCDAccess student portal or the Career Center’s website. Make sure to fully complete your professional profile before applying to positions that you may be interested in.

Work-Study

In many of the listings for positions, they will state “Work-Study Required”. Work-study is a federal program that grants students a set amount of money to earn at a part-time university job while they earn their degree. The way work-study is granted is through your FAFSA, which is based on your financial need and family income. If you are granted work-study, then the next step is to find a campus job as stated above. Note that not all students will be granted work-study when they apply, but that’s OK because there are a handful of offices who hire students without work-study.
