Student Participant in Tongji Summer Studio
Elijah Jordan, Master of Architecture student, participated in the 2012 Tongji CAUP International Summer School in Shanghai, China. The two-week architecture studio focused on ecological/historical intervention of Shanghai’s Li-long housing. Eight teams of five international students researched and developed comprehensive concepts to preserve and release density pressure regarding the Li-long housing. In the photo at left, Elijah is on the right, with his group.
Shanghai’s population per acre is twice as dense as Denver’s and geographically Shanghai is 31 times larger. Although Shanghai is one of the world’s largest cities, through infrastructure like elevated vehicular roads and a state-of-the-art metro system the population can navigate the city effectively. Elijah found the city to be exhilarating and easy to navigate while traveling to see the local attractions. He said, “Tongji is an amazing place to study. The faculty at Tongji was very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Tongji is one of China’s best architectural schools; it’s been compared to MIT in the U.S. There are opportunities for students from the University of Colorado Denver to go to China to study and I highly recommend this experience to everyone.”
