University of Colorado Denver Welcomes Kuwaiti Students
The Value of a Global Education
“Having a global education and understanding others will help you to communicate better, to be more open-minded,”
explained Husain Ashknani, a student from Kuwait enrolled in the pre-dentistry program at the University of Colorado Denver. He is now being joined at the university by other fellow students from Kuwait following the recent announcement by the Kuwait Cultural Office – Los Angeles that the University of Colorado Denver is a fully approved university recognized by the government of the State of Kuwait.
As one of the top accredited academic and health sciences institutions in the United States, the University of Colorado Denver holds more than 40 specialized accreditations. Students can choose from more than 130 degree choices such as urban design, business, engineering, pre-medicine, pharmacy, and more. A strong connection of processes between the offices of International Admissions, International Student and Scholar Services, and the ESL Academy provides seamless services in support of an exceptional educational experience for international students.
Ashknani has taken smart steps in planning his education and future career potential. This included enrollment at the university’s ESL Academy to improve his English language proficiency and ability to study in an American university classroom.
“The ESL Academy teachers really care about how we do our homework, our essays. They push us to the limit,” he said. “They also help me with any problems and answer any questions I have.”
A modern, new educational space with state-of-the-art technology and computer labs, the ESL Academy offers intensive English classes as well as classes in rhetoric and logic, vocabulary and spelling, and voice coaching and accent. The Academy also offers short-term intensives for cohorts of students to study English customized to specific topics. Classes take place in downtown Denver, providing access to a diverse business economy with internship and professional opportunities. Students are also just steps away from nearby museums, libraries, shops, restaurants and sports venues.
The Kuwait BS/DDS program welcomes applicants interested in pursuing a career in Dental Medicine to gain any necessary English proficiency through the ESL Academy before joining an undergraduate pre-Dentistry cohort with guaranteed seats in the School of Dental Medicine, as long as established milestones are achieved. This program in its fourth year and has helped pave the way for the full opening of CU Denver programs to Kuwaiti students. Interested Kuwaiti applicants should still verify government scholarship approval for the programs of interest at the University of Colorado Denver, as there may be a few restrictions including most online classes, credits, or degrees.
“I wanted to enroll to the University of Colorado and the ESL academy because of their amazing program, as I heard from my friend, and searched about it through the internet,” explained ESL Academy student Layla Almubarak .
“I want to enhance my English skills and be a good dentist one day.”
Almubarak thinks that studying in the U.S. not only helps her to earn a respected degree but also to develop her skills in English, take on more responsibilities, and learn more about different cultures and languages.
The University of Colorado Denver, which includes the downtown Denver campus and the Anschutz Medical Campus, welcomes students from more than 130 countries. International student clubs and campus and city cultural activities enrich the student experience. The university is awarded $421+ million annually in research funding and is home to ground-breaking research.
“I have a better communication, have new friends, new skills, new information about another country, and to know how to deal better with people from another countries,”
said Almubarak. Along with his studies, Ashknani has enjoyed the city life and outdoor recreation activities of Colorado.
“One of the main reasons I came to Denver was, as the phrase says, the 300 days of sunshine. When I open the door to my apartment’s balcony, I can see the mountains; it is very beautiful.”
Ultimately, the exemplary quality of the education that Ashkani is receiving is the prime reason for his stay.
His advice to other international students?
“The university itself is very good, so I think you should make the right choice and come to Denver.”
