The I-20/DS-2019 Process Timeline

The Office of International Admissions is staffed with professionals trained in the analysis of foreign education systems and academic credentials. They will professionally evaluate your academic credentials to aid the Admissions Committee in making a decision for the University of Colorado Denver. Some graduate programs will require that you submit a credential evaluation from an independent third-party organization, and you must comply.

After International Admissions has forwarded your Admission Letter to International Student & Scholar Services, you will receive a notification from ISSS via email to complete the Immigration Document Creation Request. This form is required to prepare the proper immigration documentation for your arrival. Processing time varies between 3 and 4 months before your intended start term arrives.
1 Week
After you complete the Immigration Clearance Form, International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) will begin to process and create your immigration documents. If you are seeking an F-1 VISA, we will create an I-20; if you are seeking a J-1 VISA, we will create a DS-2019.
Suppose you are transferring to the University of Colorado Denver. In that case, you will need to complete the Transfer-In Eligibility Form and have your current SEVIS record transferred to CU Denver before the I-20 or DS-2019 can be created.
10 Days
I-20s for F VISAs
Your I-20 can be sent to you electronically as allowed by SEVP guidance.
ISSS will send your I-20 to your university email after it has been issued. To learn how to access your student email, see the information on the OIT website.
DS-2019s for J VISAs
After the DS-2019 has been created, we will ship the immigration documents to you using the address you provided during the application process. Our office uses FedEx to ship internationally. You will receive a notification via email from ISSS when your I-20 or DS-2019 has been sent.
If you are already located in the U.S., we will not ship the immigration documents. Instead, you will need to pick the immigration documents up from our office upon arrival in Denver.
2-3 Months
Visa issuance timelines vary from country to country. That is why we suggest students plan for at least 2-3 months to have their VISA issued in preparation to come to the University of Colorado Denver. Please see our page on Arrival in Denver to better understand the process to receive a VISA.
