In 2022, Turan Kayaoglu (he/him) assumed the role of Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver. In this role, he guides the strategic direction of a range of activities related to faculty life—enhancing development and support, overseeing personnel actions, supporting leadership development, and strengthening shared governance—and provides comprehensive support to help faculty members feel well informed and valued.
Prior to CU Denver, Dr. Kayaoglu (he/him) was chair of Faculty Assembly at the University of Washington Tacoma, collaborating closely with university leadership on the university's budget, faculty salaries, teaching modalities, and COVID-19 response. He previously was Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at UW Tacoma’s School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, where he oversaw and supported research centers and expanded the university's sponsored research portfolio and scholarship visibility. He has also served in research and professorial roles at Qatar University and the Brookings Doha Center (now the Middle East Council on Global Affairs).
His research primarily relates to intersections of human rights and religion in politics, and he has been editor or author of numerous books, op-eds, and other publications, including a current role as editor-in-chief of Muslim World Journal of Human Rights.
A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Kayaoglu earned a bachelor's degree in International Relations at Bilkent University, Ankara, a master's degree in International Studies at the University of Denver, and a PhD in Political Science at the University of Washington.

Betsy coordinates and manages the processes for multiple stages in a faculty member’s career: reappointment, tenure, and promotion, clinical teaching track personnel actions, post-tenure review, sabbaticals, faculty awards, distinguished professor designation, and emeritus/emerita status. She is the primary liaison between the Office of the Provost and the schools, colleges, and libraries on the Denver and Anschutz Medical Campuses regarding faculty-related reports, policies and guidelines, and works closely with both Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Committees (VCACs) for Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion. Betsy also manages logistics for faculty affairs events such as the annual celebration of faculty excellence and the tenure and promotion luncheon.
