How To Apply

Applying to Global Study programs is an easy online process. View Global Study program listings in the CU Denver study abroad portal, click on your chosen program, and click on the "Apply" button to get started. Students must be in good academic standing at CU Denver with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Most programs do not have prerequisites, but some may require a slightly higher GPA or completion of another course. All programs require a statement of purpose essay and many require an interview with the faculty leader. It is important to note that applications will not be reviewed until all required application materials are submitted.

The application process for CU Denver Semester Programs is entirely online. In the CU Denver study abroad portal, search for your program, navigate to the program brochure page, and click on the "Apply" button to get started.
The Semester in Berlin and Semester in Beijing programs are open to all CU Denver students, as well as non-CU Denver students in good academic standing. ArtsHub Asia programs are only open to CU Denver students enrolled in the College of Arts & Media. Proficiency in the host language is not required for the programs. Students will need to provide a statement of purpose and copy of their unofficial transcript when applying to either program. The Semester in Berlin application also requires an interview with the faculty member and a resume that will be used for the internship placement.

Applying to IPA is an easy online process. In the CU Denver study abroad portal, search for your program, navigate to the program brochure page, and click on the "Apply" button to get started. The GPA requirement for undergraduates is 2.75 and the requirement for graduates is 3.0. The application requires completion of a questionnaire, a letter to the prospective internship employer, a copy of your resume and unofficial transcripts, etc. After submitting the application and required documents, students will be invited for an interview with the Office of Global Education.

Students who are accepted to CU Denver Internship Programs Abroad will be required to attend an orientation session at the CU Denver Experiential Learning Center and complete a Learning Agreement that clearly outlines the roles and responsibilities of the student, host organization, and CU Denver to ensure the integrity of the internship experience for all parties.

The most important thing to know about applying to a Third Party Provider Program is that the process requires two different applications: the CU Denver study abroad application and the specific third party provider’s application. Students can browse through our featured third-party programs and start the required CU Denver application easily on our website. If a student wants to participate on a program not listed on our website, please reach out to study.abroad@ucdenver.edu so we can create the application! The application requires a copy of the acceptance letter from the provider as well as a completed Course Approval Form, which can be accessed on the application. While provider application deadlines will vary, the CU Denver study abroad application deadlines are the same from year to year: 

Fall: July 1
Spring: November 1
Summer: April 1

Students selecting to directly enroll in an institution abroad must first have the program approved by the Office of Global Education, who will verify that the institution is accredited. Once approved, OGE will email students the link to the CU Denver study abroad application. The application requires a copy of the acceptance letter from the host institution as well as a completed Course Approval Form. While institution application deadlines will vary, the CU Denver study abroad application deadlines are the same from year to year:

Fall: July 1
Spring: November 1
Summer: April 1

Students who plan to travel abroad for university purposes, without the help of a third party provider or a CU Denver-sponsored group, must contact the Office of Global Education to request access to an online application. This application varies depending on the student’s school/college. Please email study.abroad@ucdenver.edu and indicate the following: name, school/college, country and intended dates of travel, purpose of travel. Each school/college may require additional steps for international travel, above and beyond the Global Education application.

Residents or Fellows who plan to travel abroad for a rotation must first coordinate with their Program Director for pre-approval. They will then need to complete the Office of Global Education application specific to international rotations for residents. Learn more on the GME website.
