When you are hired to work at the Salazar Student Wellness Center, you become part of the Wellness Warrior Team. CU Denver students from all walks of life make up the Wellness Warrior Team, and it is those students who make all the amazing programs, facilities, and services operate. More than 100 CU Denver students find employment at the Salazar Student Wellness Center each semester.

Student Positions

Wellness & Recreation Services employs over 100 student employees each academic year. Both work study and non-work study positions are available. Descriptions of the positions are located below. Please note, not all positions are actively open.

Fitness Positions

Group Fitness Instructor

Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for creating a motivational and inclusive fitness environment. Instructors will teach a variety of modes of exercise in the group setting, ranging from yoga to strength training.

Those with prior experience and current certifications can apply via Handshake.

Interested in becoming a group fitness instructor? Take our Group Fitness Instructor Training course. Those who complete the course will have four months to attain certification; practical auditions are required to attain the position.

Pay: $20.00/hour when teaching/training independently with opportunity to increase with experience
Work schedule: depends on fitness class schedule
Accredited certification and/or successful completion of the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor prep course is required.

Personal Trainer

Personal trainers are responsible for creating fitness programs and leading clients through safe and effective workouts. The trainer will keep a schedule of times available to train participants in the morning, evening, and/or weekends. This position develops fitness programs for flexibility, cardiovascular, and resistance training. Trainers also recruit and retain clients and maintain at least six hours of weekly training availability. Trainers must be certified in CPR or become certified within the first four weeks of employment. Those who complete the ACE Personal Trainer Course will have four months to attain certification. Practical auditions are required to attain the position.

Pay: $20.00/hour when teaching/training independently with opportunity to increase with experience
Work schedule: depends on the number of clients and availability
Accredited certification and/or successful completion of the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Personal Trainer prep course is required.

Content Creation Specialist

Content Creation Specialists are responsible for developing and creating content for the university community to be distributed via the website, social media, emails, and printed materials. This position helps evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and initiatives throughout the year, provides videography and/or photography to be utilized on highly visible marketing pieces, develops creative ideas and concepts for comprehensive marketing campaigns and associated materials, assists with other projects, and completes related job duties as directed. This position may take a more design focused or more marketing outreach focused role based on personal interests and professional growth opportunities.

Pay: Starting at $18.75/hour
Work schedule: up to 25 hours per week during normal operating hours

Competitive Sports Positions

Competitive Sports Associate

Competitive Sports Associates are responsible for overseeing and managing Club Sports events and supervising and officiating Intramural Sports shifts. This position also assists with set-up and tear-down during shifts, inventory checks, addressing participant and guest questions and concerns, and officiating Intramural Sports contests. Competitive Sports Associates must attend Officials’ meetings and clinic(s) and be knowledgeable in general Club Sports and Intramural Sports policies and procedures. This position works mainly Monday and Tuesday afternoon/evening hours and various weekend hours.

Pay: Starting at $18.29/hour
Work schedule: up to 25 hours per week. Mon.–Thurs.: afternoon/evening; Mon.–Sun.: early morning; Sat.–Sun.: hours vary

Internship Opportunities

CU Denver Wellness & Recreation Services is pleased to offer internship opportunities for applicants interested in entering the field of collegiate recreation and related fields. Our internship program allows students the opportunity to get real-world experience in a campus recreation setting. General responsibilities include but are not limited to program development, administrative operations, and special projects for both the department and in a specific functional area.
