Cannabis & Marijuana

J-1 Exchange Visitor Program for Scholars and Student Interns

Recreational and medical sale and use of cannabis is legal in Colorado and many other states. Federal law considers the sale, possession and use of cannabis illegal.

Sale, possession or use of cannabis can have serious consequences under federal law including immigration impacts such as denial of admission to the U.S. or revocation of a visa.

Do not sell, possess or use cannabis or have evidence of association with cannabis.

The visa application asks for social media information which consular officers can use to view posts and pictures.

CBP officers can inspect cell phone and electronic devices when you apply to enter the U.S.
