Change in Terms of J Program

J-1 exchange visitors may not change any aspect of their program terms without advance approval from International Student and Scholar Services. This includes

• A current employee who will
  • Change faculty supervisor
  • Change or add a site of activity (work location, lab, department, etc.)
  • Change academic objective
  • Change FTE
  • Receive a salary reduction
  • Change eligibility for employee health insurance
• A current non-employee who will
  • Change faculty supervisor
  • Change or add a site of activity (work location, lab, department, etc.)
  • Change academic objective
  • Change funding source
  • Be hired as an employee

The J-1 exchange visitor, faculty sponsor and HR Business Partner are responsible for understanding and complying with the terms of the program and requesting changes in advance by submitting a J-1 Amendment Request to ISSS. 

Representations or statements made by the faculty sponsor do not change the terms of the J-1 program or relieve the exchange visitors of their obligations under the terms of the program.
