Parents of dependent students may borrow a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan to assist with educational expenses. You parent will have steps to complete each year your parent borrows the loan. A Parent PLUS Loan cannot be accepted via a student’s UCDAcccess Portal. Parents who plan to borrow a Parent PLUS Loan will need to complete an application for the credit-based loan. The credit check is valid for 180 days. If the loan is approved, the status will change to accepted in a the student’s UCDAccess portal. Note: When applying for a PLUS Loan it is important to use the correct loan period. For Fall- Spring use the correct Academic Year. For a Summer loan be sure to select the summer term.
A Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s). An MPN is valid for 10 years.
Borrowers of PLUS Loans approved with an endorser require the endorser to sign a MPN. Borrowers of loans approved through an appeal require the borrower to complete PLUS Credit Counseling.
