We are pleased to share the following updates for our July 19 release to Sitefinity, including numerous web accessibility updates:
Enhancements to Current Functionality
- Breadcrumbs: Updates were made to resolve screen readers picking up empty list elements.
- Checklist phases: Changes were made to the aria label on anchor elements so that the “opens in new window” text will be passed to screen readers if the anchor is an external link. The use of an anchor within a button was resolved. The CSS was updated so that templates will now be applied correctly to anchors.
- Degree program dropdown button: Changes were made so that this button is no longer hidden from screen readers.
- Featured tabs: Resolved an issue for screen readers with anchor elements. A visual improvement was made so the tabs line up with the body content.
- Footer/ankle: Updates were made to resolve screen readers picking up empty list elements.
- Hero carousel: Significant accessibility improvements were made to support screen reader navigation of the hero carousel widget. This includes: moving aria slide labels to a focusable element so that screen readers are now announcing the titles correctly; ensuring the proper elements are read as buttons; and changes were made to the code so that previous and next buttons do not duplicate if an additional hero carousel is added to a page.
- Skip to content button: Code was modified so that containers adjust their size to accommodate text size changes, resolving an issue where this button was clipped in Firefox if text was scaled to 200%.
- Top main navigation: Updated aria labels for the toggle button, including adding an aria label of “primary navigation menu” to improve screen reader navigation.
Noteworthy Bug Fixes
- Featured tabs: A bug was fixed where two featured tabs on the same page with the same title would cause incorrect content to show in the other featured tab. Additionally, a bug was fixed where users would be scrolled when clicking a featured tab on desktop in Firefox.
