Sitefinity releases - November 28, 2018
CMS Transition Team | Office of Information Technology and University Communications Nov 28, 2018New features
Research and creative projects v1
The first iteration of the Research and Creative Projects content type, widget and templates is ready for use. The first iteration does not include images or videos, as we are working with our partner Blue Modus on how to best handle shared image and video assets. Media will be added into this content type in a future iteration. In the meantime, use the Research and Creative Projects widget in conjunction with hero, image gallery, image and video widgets to enrich the content of the page. YouTube or Vimeo videos can be added via the embed widget (available on request) or can be added by included the embed code in a content block widget.
Links for footer column heading
In the local footer, site builders can now add a link to each column heading if desired. This request came from multiple clients.
Improvements
Required fields for newsroom articles
The requirement on certain article fields has been relaxed. Articles are now easier to save as works in progress.
Priority Plus menu JavaScript rewritten
The Priority Plus top menu was experiencing a bug, the “more” button would occasionally overlap the last menu item, this provided a poor user experience. The JavaScript responsible for the display of the menu has been rewritten, and the “more” button will no longer overlap any menu options, in addition more menu options will be displayed more reliably.
Hero image widget
The hero image widget has been enhanced to allow site builders to select a height for the widget (300px, 400px or 500px) as well as a position for the image. Builders can now attach the image to the top, bottom or center of the widget. This allows more control over how an image will appear and crop at various screen sizes. The height selection allows Builders to choose how much screen real estate is devoted to the hero.
In addition, the sub headline of the hero is now hidden at mobile sizes. This allows longer sub headlines to be accommodated for larger screens, without sacrificing a good mobile experience.
This request came from several site builders including the College of Arts & Media and CU Online.
Hero video widget
The hero video widget now offers a choice to turn video looping on or off.
Accessibility updates
In October, Assistive Technology Partners performed accessibility testing on three of our widgets. We gained valuable insight into how these widgets are used by screen readers and using keyboard navigation. In response, the following improvements have been made:
Accessibility in accordion
- Added role = button to accordion link tag
- Added aria-expanded, aria-hidden, and aria-selected to various parts of the accordion code for screen reader accessibility. Additionally, added JavaScript code to toggle their values from true to false and vice versa.
Accessibility for side navigation accordion template
- Add aria to various areas of the code to make it more accessible to screen readers
- Added tabindex = 0 to the drop down arrows so that it can receive keyboard focus
Accessibility for fancy tabs
- Added role = tab and aria-controls to link tag
- Added aria-selected to the tabs and JavaScript to toggle their values
Fixed
Google Analytics
Site builders can add Google Tag Manager container ID to any page, however, if no ID had been added, Google Analytics was not applied to the page. We have added the University’s central container to be the default tracking ID in the event that no ID had been added.
Events
In the Version 11 upgrade, the user interface on date and time selectors changed, this collided with some of our custom coding. We have resolved the issue to allow for easier date and time selection of events.
Enhanced card and accordion
In the event that a long word or URL was added to the content of the accordion or enhanced card, the content exceeded the width of the widget and introduced a display bug. We have added code to force long words and URLs to wrap within the width of the widget.
Certain people and departments were missing
Missing directory data has been added. Please reach out to websitehelp@ucdenver.edu if Sitefinity is missing a “Person” record for an employee.
Image editing through the highlight box and hero widgets
In the past Site Builders attempting to crop or edit an image through a widget experienced an error message. We have repaired the code responsible for this error and Builders can now edit images through widgets.
Campus two templates
In the event that a “two” page template was used and no left navigation items were present, a set of empty lines was appearing in the left column. The code has been repaired, if no items are showing in left navigation, the navigation does not appear at all.
Groundwork for future improvements
Rethinking mobile behavior of “horizontal” navigation
We are researching and prototyping improvements to the horizontal navigation. This work will continue into December.
Performance Audit and Analysis
Our Sitefinity partner Blue Modus performed an in-depth examination of how our system is running and has come back with several recommendations around configuration and networking. The recommendations will be shared with the Web Advisory Committee. We have begun implementing the recommended changes and will continue in December and January.
Academic Program content type and degree finder tool
Academic Program data has been collected so that we can populate both the New | Ed degree finder tool, and the Sitefinity website with degree information. In December, we will be creating a script for the data import and developing the Academic Program content type. Expected release of the content type is January 30, 2019. The New | Ed degree finder tool has been approved by procurement and we are actively working on the next steps to get it implemented in early 2019.
Known Issues
Be sure to check out https://www.ucdenver.edu/atweb/support/current-bugs for the latest on known issues.
Person widget in narrow column
If the detail or full profile template is used for a Person in a narrow column, the social media icons can overlap other content.
Cannot publish a page using inline editing
When using inline editing, it is not possible to publish the page. Progress has confirmed this as a bug on their end and will resolve it in an upcoming release.
Image uploading through the content block and other widgets
Images cannot be uploaded through the content block or other rich text fields. We are working with Progress to diagnose this issue.
CTA, testimonial, and enhanced cards
If a single item of content is specifically selected, it will change the title of the page. There is a work around to avoid this issue, please see https://www.ucdenver.edu/atweb/support/current-bugs
