Social Media FAQ

Post frequency is impacted by many variables. The most important is how much social content you actually have to share. If you don’t have enough content to post regularly, consider contacting University Communications to submit your content for inclusion on our official social media platforms. Here are some general frequency guidelines:

• Facebook: Post at least three times a week, and no more than twice a day.
• Twitter: At least one to two tweets per day. It’s very hard to tweet too much. 
• Instagram: Post at least three times a week, no more than once a day. The key is posting consistently on Instagram. If you choose to post every day, focus on fulfilling that expectation consistently. 
• LinkedIn: Post at least two times a week. No more than once a day.
• Snapchat: As needed, no more than 60 seconds of content on a given day.

That’s a tough question, but in general aim for roughly 70 percent content your audience will find valuable and helpful to them, not you. Thirty percent can be promotional or messaging that you feel is important to get out. Find ways to communicate all messages in a visual way. Visuals greatly increase the chances your audience will find your social media posts interesting.

As a representative of the university, it is imperative for you to maintain the same standards of conduct expected of all CU employees. Be respectful, positive, helpful and informative. Do not engage in negative banter and do not take a political stand on topics or legislation. Do not post inappropriate, disrespectful comments intended to embarrass your co-workers, students, or others you interact with at the university.
